Legend tells us that in the 5th century St. Patrick used the shamrock to demonstrate the meaning of the Trinity. Found on Irish medieval tombs, the shamrock image is also stamped into old copper coins known as “St. Patrick’s money”. Derived from the Gaelic word seamrog, meaning summer plant, the shamrock is Ireland’s most famous symbol.
