The origins of the bunny as an Easter symbol are found in Germany, first mentioned in writings in the 1500’s. The lore was introduced to American folklore by the German settlers who arrived in Pennsylvania Dutch country during the 1700’s. Children believed that if they were good, the “Oschter Haws” would lay a nest of brightly coloured eggs.
