Our Sterling silver over lead-free Pewter Moveable Nine- Banded Armadillo Pin/Pendant features one of Nature’s most fascinating curiosities hurrying right along- all four legs move independently! The Armadillo has been on earth for about 55 million years, and is one of the oldest surviving mammals. The Nine-Banded Armadillo (the number of bands vary, but nine is the usual number) can hold its breath under water for as long as 6 minutes, and can do so while walking along the river floor. Their short legs are armored, and end in long, curved claws which are used for protection as well as for digging. The ICUN Red List of Threatened Species lists 24 species of armadillo, and at least 3 species are endangered.
